Air Power: Fighter Pilots #ASTVHS0011
Air Power: Fighter Pilots
Aviation Week & Space Technology

The documentary, Air Power: Fighter Pilots, represents a behind-the-scenes look at the Red Flag air-combat training that includes pilots of all types of aircraft from the United States Air Force, as well as, a number of allied air forces from countries including France and Great Britain.  "Fighter Pilot" reviews the following activities: 1) Electronic countermeasures including enemy radar lock-on & simulated ground-based missiles; 2) First hand assessments from pilots & ground crew who have trained & tested at Red Flag; 3) "Aggressor" squadrons who train and fly aircraft that look and perform similarly to aircraft flown by America's potential adversaries; 4) Ground controllers role in directing a pilot training experience that includes dozens of aircraft flying in a limited amount of air space and 5) RFMDS, the sophisticated Red Flag debriefing system that is just as important as the "hands-on" training mission.  All of these activities are part of a comprehensive experience that tests pilot skills in the split-second maneuvering of dogfights and ground attack missions where only the best survive.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1987.  Runtime 40 minutes.
