The documentary, Air Power: Test Pilot, represents a comprehensive view of one of the most demanding jobs in all of aviation. The viewer will meet and fly with the very best test pilots in the world including Scott Crossfield, Kurt Schroeder, Guy Mitaud-Mauraud, Steve Ishmael and Heinz Frick. The world of a test pilot will be revealed as they take military jets, rotary wing aircraft and the latest commercial transports through their paces. The viewer will also trace the development of flight-testing from the Wright Flyer and the Spirit of St. Louis to the modern day Rafale and ATF. Also followed are the "gut wrenching spin tests" taught at the United States Air Force Test Pilot School. As the viewer "spends a day in the life of a test pilot" they will also experience envelope expansion tests from the cockpit of the F-14 Tomcat and hear an exclusive on-camera interview with one of the former Soviet Union's best test pilots. Along with the interview, the viewer will see spectacular flight footage of the MiG-29 Fulcrum as he puts it through its paces at the 1989 Farnborough Air Show. This video is certain to appeal to anyone who has an interest in aviation history. Full screen in color. Released in 1990. Runtime 70 minutes.
