The movie, Bite The Bullet, is filmed in the classic Western tradition and is a story of a 700-mile horse race in the early 1900's sponsored by a railroad company. The race takes its competitors over some rough terrain and thorugh various inclement conditions. The wide variety of contestants has varied reasons for entering the grueling race, but each one of them has their eyes squarely on the $2,000 prize. The rivals include an honorable Rough Rider, a plucky young woman, a drifting ex-cowboy, a reckless young "bad boy", a wealthy British sportsman and a Pony Express rider. As the competitors set out on their harsh and grueling desert ride, each person is forced to work together as they endure a wide variety of dangerous conditions. This tale features generous cinematography of barren and lone wasteland which is shot in contrast to the actual pageantry of the race, teeming with scenes of the rough and tumble West full of hucksters, hustlers and brawdy barmaids. Starring Gene Hackman, Candice Bergen and James Coburn among others. Full screen in color. Released in 1975. Runtime 131 minutes.
