Final Target: Planet Earth #GILVHS0001
Final Target: Planet Earth
Goldhil Video

The film, Final Target: Planet Earth, attempts to answer the question of whether or not planet Earth is destine for desturction by objects from the edge of our solar system.  "Final Target: Planet Earth" explores the present efforts to detect and observe the asteroids and comets that may hold the ultimate fate of the planet.  Experts from N.A.S.A.'s Jet Propulsoin Laboratory detail current and future plans for dealing with a major impact of an object on Earth using 3-D Graphics and computor generated images.  Intervention strategies include the sending of robotic spacecraft and manned space missions to investigate asteroids and comets more closely.  Protection scenarios such as destorying a space object with explovises including the use of nuclear weapons are also explored.  While the possibility of a devastating asteroid or comet impacting the Earth in the near-term seems remote, it is chilling to know that, to date, only 10 percent of the sky has been searched.  Who knows what is looming in the 90 percent of the sky that has not been analzyed.  This film is sure to appeal to anyone who is interested in space or liked the movies Armageddon and Deep Impact which both dealt with the scenarios of catastrophic collisions between asteroids or comets and Earth.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1998.  Runtime 50 minutes.
