Fixed Bayonets!
Cold War
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment

The movie, Fixed Bayonets!, takes place during the Korean war and centers on a "neophyte" corporal who is afraid to take a life even if it is an enemy soldier.  When his division is forced down Korea's snowbound mountains, the corporal's unit stays behind to cover its retreat.  Entrenched in a cave, the corporal watches his superiors get picked-off one by one until he must take command.  He soon learns what he is capable of and what he will do in order to survive.  Filmed and released during the Korean War, Fixed Bayonets!, offered audiences no rest from the harrowing, difficult combat they learned about through newspapers and magazine stories.  This film is also notable in that it intorduced a new arena into modern American combat films that of freezing, icy terrain.  As a further side note, many of the wounded soldiers depicted in the movie were actually actors who were injured on the set during filming.  The director, Samuel Fuller, kept them on the set so they could still collect their paychecks.  Starring Craig Hill, Michael O'Shea and Richard Basehart among others.  Full screen in black and white.  Released in 1951.  Runtime 92 minutes.
