Hawker Tempest Mk.V #AT0019
Hawker Tempest Mk.V
Military Aircraft

The Hawker Tempest was a single seat British Fighter / Bomber aircraft primarily used by the Royal Air Force (R.A.F.) during World War II.  It was developed in part from the earlier Hawker Typhoon and was deployed as the Tempest V starting in 1944.  In all, 1,702 Hawker Tempests were built and although it was mainly used by the R.A.F., it was also used in limited numbers by Canada, India, New Zealand and Pakistan.  The Tempest was used up through the mid-1950s. The Hawker Tempest Mk.V, which is the subject of this scaled model, was powered by a 24 cylinder liquid cooled Napier Sabre II engine which gave it the following operational statistics: 1) Top speed of 427 m.p.h. At 18,500 feet; 2) Combat range of 1,530 miles and 3) Service ceiling of 36,000 feet. The Hawker Tempest Mk.V was armed with four Hispano wing mounted 20 mm cannon and could, depending on it's mission, carry a variety of free falling bombs and rockets. This older, out-of-production Hawker Tempest scaled model includes the features: 1) Authentic markings for a Tempest Mk.V as flown by a member of the Royal Air Force No. 56 Squadron during World War II; 2) Clear plastic canopy; 3) Positive alignment pins for easy construction; 4) Recessed panel lines; 5) Seated pilot figure; 6) Painting guide and 7) Illustrated assembly instruction.  The model box is in excellent condition. Never started and factory sealed.
