How The West was won is Hollywood's epic tale of the development of the American West from the 1830s through the Civil War to the end of the 19th century as seen  through the eyes of three generations of the pioneer Prescott family.  The film is  divided into three chapters all directed by different directors: 1) "The Civil War" (directed by John Ford); 2) "The Railroad" (directed by George Marshall) and 3) "The River, the Plains, the Outlaws" (directed by Henry Hathaway).  "Top-notch" production values and a never ending string of solid acting performances from many of the most famous actors of all-time have earned How The West Was Won the well-deserved title of one of Hollywood's most liked film classics.  Starring Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck,  James Stewart and John Wayne among others.  Widescreen in color.  Released in  1962.  Runtime 155 minutes.
