Men Of The Fighting Lady #MAVHS0087
Men Of The Fighting Lady
MGM/UA Home Video (Warner Brothers)

The movie, Men Of The Fighting Lady, centers on the day-in and day-out exploits of a group of Naval aviators flying jets from the flight deck of the "The Fighting Lady" during the Korean War.  The plot for "Men Of The Fighting Lady' is derived from two articles published in the Saturday Evening Post: 1) "The Forgotten Heroes Of Korea" and 2) "The Case Of The Blind Pilot".  While this movie follows the exploits of the entire carrier based air group, it focuses attention on a Lieutenaut (j.g.) Howard Thayer who thunders from the flight deck to attack North Korean air and ground forces in flak-filled skies on a daily basis.  The story of these Naval aviators is told through the perspective of the ship's doctor which gives this movie the look and feel of a documentary.  Also of interest, is the fact that this film includes actual combat and operational footage which makes the film a "riveting time capsule" of the early days of jet fighter combat.  Starring Van Johnson, Walter Pidgeon and Louis Calhern among others.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1954.  Runtime 82 minutes.
