The book, The Illustrated History Of Skyraider (The Vietnam War), tells the story of how the large Douglas A-1 Skyraider was used so effectively in attacking ground targets during America's involvement in the Vietnam War.  The A-1 Skyraider was developed and available for combat duty shortly after the end of World War II.  While it was a piston-engine airplane operating in the new jet-age, it never-the-less excelled at delivering large amounts of ordnance on enemy ground targets in both the Korean conflict and the Vietnam war.  Although some pilots complained that the Skyraider was difficult to fly, in the final analysis, relative to the Vietnam War, it was the right weapon at the right time.  The Skyraider was a rugged aircraft that could fly long periods of time over enemy targets and could return to base even after sustaining significant battle damage.  The major sections of this book are as follows: 1) Air war in Shangri-la; 2) A Spad for Jungle Jim; 3) The Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club; 4) The making of Able Dog; 5) Loitering with intent; 6) Secret war in Laos; 7) Mavericks of the air; 8) A bang and a whimper and 9) Glossary.  In addition to an informative narrative, this book includes the following features: 1) Approximately 103 black and white vintage photographs; 2) 9 color photographs and 1 Skyraider cut-away.  This book is 158 pages and is in excellent condition.  The author is Robert F. Dorr.  Edition published in 1988.
