The movie, "The Shepherd Of The Hills", is based on Harold Bell Wright's famous best selling novel of the same name. This film is a love story that centers on a "spitfire" Ozark mountain girl, Sammy Lane and her rifle carrying sweetheart, Matt. The viewer quickly realizes that Matt has taken a "blood oath" to kill the father he never knew and in so doing avenge his dead mother's broken heart. Along the way, a stranger arrives who becomes known as "the shepherd" due to the kindness he shows the backwoods people. Matt is upset, however, when he realizes that the stranger has purchased "Moanin Meadow" which is where his mother is buried. The movie comes full-circle when the story comes to a surprise ending where all the secrets and past grudges are revealed. This movie is notable for the fact that it is the first feature length color film starring John Wayne. Starring John Wayne, Betty Field and Harry Carey among others. Full screen in color.
