World War I
TSC Film Distribution

On Easter Monday, 1917, a group of civilian soldiers overcoming tremendous odds gave the Allies their first victory of World War I.  The capture of Vimy Ridge by the Canadian Corps forged forever Canada'a place among the great nations of the world.  This documentary traces Canada's heroic efforts in World War I by exploring events leading up to Vimy Ridge including "political intirgue, stupidity, racism and faulty rifles".  After facing their first gas attack and standing their ground they unify and become "masters of the battlefield".  By the time of the battle for Vimy Ridge the citizen soldiers had developed into a cohesive unifying mix of races and relions and fought as Canadians.  This movie was shot in a unique style that blends rare original footage and paintings with authentic re-enactments and is a must for World War I history mavens.  Fullscreen in color.  Released in 1996.  Runtime 140 minutes.
